SEIU Stitches + Stories: Instructions & Guides

Were you at the SEIU event? Welcome back to finish your embroidery project! During the event, you practiced essential stitches like the straight stitch, back stitch, and running stitch. Along the way, you connected with fellow participants through conversation and storytelling, exploring the discussion questions below to keep the dialogue going. If you're interested in stitching more or organizing a similar event for your group, feel free to reach out to me at othercatcreations.com. Let's collaborate!

Regardless of whether you select the Ice Out, Unite Fight Win, or Black Lives Matter design, you'll be using the same stitching techniques. The videos below will guide you through completing your project seamlessly. Ensure you have an embroidery needle—if you've misplaced yours, you can find one online or at your local craft store (just look for "embroidery" on the packaging). Don't forget your scissors! Immigrant Pride

Every family has a story. What part of yours lives in you every day?

  • Who made sacrifices so you could be where you are today?

  • What traditions, values, or lessons from your family do you carry with you?

  • How has moving between cultures, languages, or communities shaped your leadership?

  • What gives you hope when the work feels difficult?

  • What story is inspiring you as you stitch this?

Black Pride

Joy is more than happiness, it can be an act of resilience. Where do you find yours?

  • What does Black joy look like in your community?

  • What strengths have you inherited from those who came before you?

  • How do you care for yourself while caring for others?

  • What does thriving, not just surviving, look like?

  • What story is inspiring you as you stitch this?

Worker's Rights + Solidarity

Every movement is built on relationships. Tell someone about a person who changed the way you think about organizing.

  • When did you first understand the power of collective action?

  • When have you experienced the power of community?

  • What workplace change are you most proud to have helped create?

  • What gives you hope about the future of worker organizing?

  • What story is inspiring you as you stitch this?
